What is the Legion of the Moose:
The Moose Legion is the Second Degree of Moose
International, and was organized in 1913 to raise money for the
creation of the "Child City" known as Mooseheart.
This effort was so successful, that upon the
completion of it's purpose, it was decided to leave the Moose
Legion intact as a fund raising unit of the Moose Fraternity.
From this, the Moose Legion gets it's name, "The
Degree of Service".
But the Moose Legion is not "All Business".
Legionnaires also like to have fun, and they
impart this spirit into every activity.
From our monthly meetings, to the Quarterly
Celebrations, you will be sure these members are continuing
their Honorable tradition of support to Mooseheart and
Moosehaven, and we are having a lot of fun while doing it.

A Word
From the Chairman:

This Moose year sure has flown
by, where did it go? I’d like to express extra special thanks to
everyone who volunteered with various tasks associated with our
socials. Without you this year would not have been the success
it was. If you’d like to volunteer for a small job please let it
be known. Everyone had 12 great Sunday afternoons of fun and
frolic with some of the tastiest covered dishes imaginable.
Governor Whitey has asked if I would accept the position once
again and I have agreed to do so. Quite honestly, the main
reason for accepting it a second time is because of all you
great Moose Legionnaires and your wives who attend and support
our functions. Y’all are so much fun and everyone enjoys the
camaraderie.
Our Moose Legion project to build a first class regulation size
Bocce Ball court is slowly coming together. We plan to construct
it between the annex building and horseshoe pits. All we’re
waiting on is a Bobcat to level the area, and then it will be
full steam ahead.
Upcoming socials will be scheduled for May 18th and June 15th.
Keeping with tradition the May social’s theme will be Bike Week
Spring Rally with baked ham and your covered dish. Entertainment
is Johnny Cochran. June’s social will be our annual Father’s Day
sit down lasagna dinner with salad and garlic bread. Seeing
there is no covered dish, please bring a bottle of wine to share
with your table and/or dessert for 6-8 people. Surf & Sand will
be performing.
Our Moose Legionnaire for May is Jimmy Keating. As y’all know
Jimmy heads up our clean up committee and he and his wife Mary
are valuable assets not only to the Moose Legion but also to the
entire lodge. Bob Martin is our Moose Legionnaire for June.
Behind the scenes and not visible to many, Bob arrives early
prior to each social to set up the bar and assure there is
enough beer, wine and liquor to keep everyone happy. Not noted
in the last newsletter, our Moose Legionnaire for March and
April was Buddy Parlin. We will certainly miss Buddy and I’d
like to dedicate the May social to him.
Last but not least, I’d like to thank everyone who attends our
monthly committee meeting at 3:15 prior to our social. If you’d
like to know what’s going on or have input, please join us.
Respectfully,
Warren “Sig” Siegmund, Moose Legion Chairman
